Brazil wood pulp prices to increase from May
Brazilian wood pulp manufacturer Klabin Paper recently announced that from May, the price of fluff pulp exported to China will increase by US$30/ton. In addition, Chile's Arauco Pulp Mill and Brazil's Bracell Paper also expressed follow-up price increases.
Accordingly, since May 1, the price of fluff pulp exported by Klabin Paper to China has risen to an average of US$810 per ton, while the average price of fluff pulp has just risen by about 45% at the end of December last year.
It is said that the price of short-fiber pulp has risen again due to various factors, including the strike of employees of the Finnish pulp mill, the obstruction of the global logistics chain caused by the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and the reduction of production of pulp mills in specific regions.
In addition to the above factors, logistics problems such as shortages of global shipping companies and regional containers, shortages of port drivers and trucks, coupled with stronger pulp consumption and demand, have led to a deterioration in the supply-demand balance.
The price of fluff pulp in the Chinese market rose sharply in the week of April 22, reaching $784.02 per ton, up $91.90 in a month. Meanwhile, long-fiber pulp prices rose to $979.53, up $57.90 in a month.
